Symptoms

Using XHTML code validation from the admin interface or the Webitor results in an error message about entities even though the code is correct.

Cause

Internet Information Server is not configured to serv ".ent"-file by default.
This triggers an error from the MSXML-component used by CS for code validation when it tries to load external parts of the XHTML DTD during validation.

Resolution

Add the correct mime-type for the file extension ".ent" to your IIS-configuration.

The settings for this are located in the Windows Internet Service manager on your server.
  • Choose properties for the site by right-clicking on your site or virtual CS-directory containing your CS-site
  • Go to the "HTTP-header" tab
  • Click on Mime-types and enter the following:
File extension: ent
Mime-type: text/xml

Restart your IIS for good measure and you're done!
